About Bisdak na!

A free language app built by a family that lives between two languages.

Bisdak na! started as a personal problem. This app is built by a developer who married into a Bisaya family — and discovered that while the big language apps cover French and Japanese ten times over, there was essentially nothing serious for Bisaya (Cebuano), a language spoken by more than 20 million people. Family conversations, inside jokes, the things a lola says at dinner — all of it was happening in a language no app would teach.

So we built one. And because most learners with Filipino families need it too, we added a full Tagalog track alongside.

The curriculum is built from the ground up for practical conversation — the greetings, particles, and everyday patterns that real Bisaya and Tagalog speech runs on — organized into short, modern lessons. Every phrase in both languages is reviewed by a native Bisaya speaker (yes, the same family member who inspired the app — she has veto power and uses it). The audio is generated with a neural Filipino voice and tuned, clip by clip, against a native ear — including the Cebuano double vowels and glottal stops that generic voices get wrong.

The lessons teach how people actually speak: alongside every textbook form you’ll find the “Kalye mode” version — the shortcuts, slang, and Taglish that real conversations run on.

Heritage learners, partners of Filipinos, and Filipinos reconnecting with a parent’s language shouldn’t have to subscribe to say gihigugma tika. Bisdak na! is free forever: no paywall, no locked lessons, no account required. The app works fully offline-first — your progress lives on your device, with optional email sign-in to sync across devices. To keep the lights on, we may show a small number of clearly-labeled ads on our guide articles — never inside your lessons.

Two complete tracks — Bisaya and Tagalog, switchable with one tap, each with its own progress: bite-size lessons from first words to real conversation, a sentence builder, grammar drills, spaced-repetition flashcards, short stories with audio, and pronunciation guides to each language’s sound system. Plus a growing library of free guides — phrases, greetings, numbers, and the terms of endearment that make Filipino languages so warm.
